Engagement pictures at Starved Rock

Starved Rock is one of the most beautiful places in Northern/Central Illinois. It boasts waterfalls and canyons and once a year, bluebells. The bluebells arrive end of April for about 2 weeks and it’s so magical to walk back on this trail and the whole floor is blue! It’s one of my favorite spots and I take my kids hiking there every spring. I also end up taking lots of photos during those two weeks!

Michael & Anna are having their wedding at Starved Rock later this year and wanted some engagement pictures out there. I typically choose spots that we will not use on their wedding day so the pictures are different. We started out at a gorgeous waterfall! It always helps to hire a local photographer because we know the trail conditions and where all the cool spots are!

There is usually lot of water in the spring which also means mud so you gotta be a little picky about which trail to use when you are dressed up for your pictures! This trail you do have to walk through a little water but it’s not too bad. There is also a pretty bridge there for some photos!

So then we moved to a second location. I tend to choose locations that are very different so the backdrop for your engagement pictures vary. I love using the waterfall and the canyons and the rock falls for your starved rock engagement pictures but I LOVE the bluebells and the woods as well.

As you can see the bluebells create a magically backdrop as the sun sets behind the trees! We laughed so much during the session and got lots of genuine smiles that show how happy these two are together. So don’t tell me that you are awkward in photos. EVERYONE TELLS ME THAT! Don’t fret. I’ll get some happy photos and you’ll see how easy it is!

I love shooting out at Starved Rock and there’s a reason we are a preferred vendor for weddings at Starved Rock Lodge. We know the park and the lodge so well and have shot in every weather and in every season. It’s definitely one of my favorite places!! Great spot for engagement or family or wedding pictures!! Shoot me a line if you want to get out there with us!
