Sunflower family photos

Once a year, we have a field of beautiful sunflowers for about 10 days and it is a magical time to get family photos! I love that we have such a beautiful spot at a state park, 10 miles from my house!

Family photos are fun in the summer! It’s usually beautiful out and light until almost 8.30. I think it’s fun to have family photos in different seasons and sunflowers definitely shout summer!

Here are some of my favorites from this mini session in the sunflowers at Matthiessen State Park!

So get outside and get in the picture with your kiddos. Even just for a little mini session among the sunflowers. Wear something bright and fun and give all the kisses and giggles. Sing the Bluey song and let the kids smell the flowers. It’s so important to get family pictures with your kiddos and not just pictures of them. Trust me, you will look back and be so thankful you have those little baby hands touching your cheeks and giving you open mouth kisses. I love capturing family in the crazy toddler season of life because you look back and suddenly it’s over. I’m so thankful I have pictures of my kids’ personalities instead of just smiling looking picture perfect.

The sunflowers bloom at the beginning of July every year in Illinois. If you want pictures, let me know in May or June and I’ll shoot you and email when they are here and we’ll set up a time to head over there!
